Podcast #4 - Beginning of the End

This has been my favorite so far even if the recording is a bit rough (Still working on my process). I wasn't sure what I was going to do until I picked up the guitar and realized that Jake had left it in open tuning after our studio session just before Christmas. NEW SONG COMING SOON!

So, boom, I decided the mood was going to be melancholy. Spent a little while trying to figure out how to make sounds I liked in this tuning. Had no idea what I was doing so wrote everything down in code so I'd remember where to put my fingers. Ha! It's all very scientific. Then, my almost teenage son and I went for a long walk and started to talk about relationships.

Our conversation is what inspired the song. I remember how much I struggled with past loves. I wanted him to understand that not every relationship was meant to be "THE" relationship and that sometimes endings are what are most important to our personal, spiritual and emotional growth. I can only hope that he took some of it to heart and that it might come to mind when he needs it at some point in his life.

The Beginning of the End

It was long ago, but everything looks better in a soft glow
Filtering through all the things that we now know
Looking at the love that we were in.
Both so headstrong, hurrying past all the things that felt wrong
Faster than speed of where we belong
I don’t know who we thought we were then, back when

We held tight
staring out the window at the starlight
promising each other it was alright
Funny how impatient we were then
when it was only the beginning of the end

They seem strange, all the things we wanted to but can’t change
desperate for a world we wouldn’t reclaim for all the things we’ll never feel again
But it felt right. Not always but forgiveness comes with hindsight
So, I hope you will remember me in soft light
And even if you can’t, will you pretend
Remember when

We held tight
staring out the window at the starlight
promising each other it was alright
Funny how impatient we were then
when it was only the beginning of the end

We fought it oh, but now we know
The end will take us where we want to go

But we held tight, staring out the window at the starlight
promising each other it was alright
Funny how impatient we were then
and it was only the beginning of the end
only the beginning of the end
